Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Humboldt Bay Power Plant Seawall Reconstruction Project

Client: Pacific Gas and Electric
Funding Source: Pacific Gas and Electric
Project Location: King Salmon, CA

Pacific Gas and Electric operates the only major power plant in Humboldt County, the Buhne Point Power Plant, which is located south of Eureka, on the east shore of Humboldt Bay.  Due to the power plant’s proximity to the mouth of Humboldt Bay, the adjacent shoreline receives continuous punishment from waves produced by winter storm events.  To protect the shoreline and the power plant, Pacific Affiliates was hired to redesign the existing seawall and provide quality control services during construction.  The project involved preparing plans and specifications for a three phase project to realign and restore 2,800 lineal feet of the storm damaged structure.  Relying on extensive marine experience, Pacific Affiliates designed a seawall to withstand the dynamic and destructive forces of nature while providing protection for the region’s main source of energy.

  • Biological investigation
  • Project permitting through local, state and federal agencies
